Overview
Pangong Lake, also known as Pangong Tso, is one of the most stunning high-altitude lakes in India. Located at an altitude of about 4,350 meters (14,270 ft), it stretches for nearly 134 km, with almost 60% of the lake lying in Tibet (China) and the rest in Ladakh, India. The name “Pangong” is derived from the Tibetan word Pangong Tso, meaning “high grassland lake.”
What makes Pangong truly unique is its ever-changing shades of blue—from azure to turquoise and even green—depending on the time of day and season. Despite being a saline water lake, it freezes completely in the harsh winter months, offering a surreal view.
